Moody Mod
Being a seasonal florist is amazing. I get to use all the best most inspiring blooms that we cultivate right here on our land. However lets be honest, Wisconsin’s growing season is not the longest even with season extension in our hoop houses. Winter is long. Thankfully I spend most of my weeks talking with couples to see how I can make their flowers easy and unforgettable. This sometimes entails creating vision boards or seed planning to fit their color palettes. The only thing missing is actually creating florals. I made it till March this year, tending to my new baby and resting my sore body, then I had to get creative.
I had been thinking of this unusual color palette with a vintage feel all winter. Perhaps because I spent a lot of nights nursing and watching Mad Men. Again. This time I was noticing all the clothing and color combos that were so trendy in mid century modern design. The furniture is amazing, still hold true today, but some of the colors were so bizarre. Avocado with orange etc.
None of the floral I chose were local. It was the beginning of March and that’s Wisconsin. I chose the bright yellow daffodils first as they were about to bloom in a week or two in my garden. That’s the seasonal feel. The rest was to play with the bright color. I created this peter pan collar and earrings our of wax flower and carnations, two flowers that are readily available from my wholesaler all season.
The photography was magical to the whole vibe. Deep and moody to counteract the bright sunshine yellow. Photography changes flowers. Often times we see inspiration online that would look so different in real life, but the photography elevates it and changes the feel easily.
I was luckily to have a former bride of mine model for me and friends share pottery, cake and hair and makeup.
Beehives, chocolate walls, and vintage jumpsuits. I am in love.
